October 14, 2017 – Lancaster Country Day School celebrated the opening of their new Athletic and Recreation Center. Murray Associates Architects was honored to be involved in this project. The 31,540 gsf Center addition reflects Lancaster Country Day School’s (LCDS) continued emphasis on the importance of health and wellness in education. The projects main goal was to maintain current levels of facilities in comparable schools while surpassing them by reflecting the importance of student fitness. The intent was not only to offer these programs but create fun and appealing spaces and programs enticing all students to become physically engaged.
The new addition houses a fitness center with free weights and cardio equipment; a multipurpose physical education, dance and yoga space; five regulation squash courts with spectator seating and a sports medicine and training room. A two-story atrium addresses the school’s circulation issues by connecting the two existing gyms to the entire school for the very first time, while allowing for future expansion.
