  • Best Architecture of 2019 – Select Capital Commercial Properties, Inc’s 225 Grandview Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA. Constructed in the 1980’s, the building’s entrance, lobbies, facade and curtain wall systems were all replaced, and the secondary building entrance was re-designed. New pre-fabricated insulated metal wall panels replaced the former 1980’s glazed aluminum curtain. The subtle pattern of the façade’s vertical openings creates an elegant rhythm that breaks down the scale of the five-story building. Insulated high-performance tinted fritted glass reduces solar gain and transforms the structure into an illuminated eye-catching beacon.
  • Best Green Project of 2019 – Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency Expansion Project, Harrisburg, PA. This LEED Platinum & Passive House project is the only one of its kind in the United States to date, as it renovates an adjacent historic building and constructs a new 8-story tower. The design utilizes electrochromic glass, exterior VRF mechanical units, 76 Photovoltaic panels, a living roof and the new tower cantilevers over the historic building. The collaborative office design includes break-out/flex spaces, office suites, varied teaming spaces and technology. The use of color, fabric, textures and lighting create a “Staff Focused” environment.
  • The Most Unique Historic Preservation Project of 2019 – The Hickok House. Built in 1904, The historic brick structure is owned by Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and was renovated as part of an expansion project designed to LEED Platinum and Passive House certifications. To overcome the inefficiency of the exterior envelope while preserving its outward historic character, a second external wall system was constructed inside the façade. The building’s infrastructure, roofing and window systems were replaced, and the façade was restored. The building was transformed into modern office space including a large community room utilized by non-profit groups.
