March 14, 2019 – Charles Palmer and Chad Smeltz of Harrisburg University joined Benedict Dubbs, Principal of Murray Associates Architects, P. C. to present HU’s eSports program and Training Arena at the KAPPA and DVAPPA Spring Conference in Lancaster. The Program discussed what eSports is, why Harrisburg University wanted to be on the forefront of this new innovative Athletic Sport, and how their State-of-the-art facility was designed and is utilized.
The university’s first and only varsity sports team, which was officially launched in Fall 2018, has come a long way since August when more than 100 players from all over the world tried out for one of 16 coveted spots on HU Storm. Murray Associates Architects P. C. designed the one-of-a-kind Practice and Scrimmage Arena for the eSports program that is outfitted with the most advanced and reliable technology and the latest innovations in gaming equipment. The space allows competitions, practice, live gameplay the Team and spectators.
The arena has one of the largest video walls on the east coast, 30 gaming computers, 24-inch monitors with high-end graphic cards configured by HP Omen, ergonomic gaming chairs from Respawn, a coaching room, student lounge and large collaborative area. Photography by Bob Skalkowski
