The new state-of-the-art “Hot Lab” was designed to produce the most efficient work flow and space, due the high cost of this facility and its procedures. The operation of the department had to be maintained as the design and construction was being completed. This required a very close working relationship with the PA Department of Labor and Industry to develop documents that clearly delineated the multiple phases of construction and occupancies.
The renovation included an observation area, preparation area, the anti-room, and a clean room with a lead lined medicine safe and glazed fume hoods had to support 200 lbs of lead bricks providing additional safety. A large glass window and voice activated audio system allows constant connections with others in the lab, to avoid isolation.
