Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, Pennsylvania
The MTC was expanded a second time due to the College’s high demand for its Welding Degree and Certification Programs. Not only did Murray Associates completed both additions, we assisted in obtaining a $2 million federal grant from the Economic Development Administration of the U. S Department of Commerce. The grant, along with matching funds, allowed the college to expand its welding facility by approximately 31,000 square feet.
The Welding Center’s second expansion nearly doubles the centers instructional space and allows the College to accept more welding students, eliminating the popular program’s traditional waiting list. This project will further assisted Penn College’s mission to help students gain the skills they need to compete in our economy and obtain good paying jobs.
The new space is well-equipped with leading technology and provides spaces for a New Tool Room/Material Storage, Automation Area, Computer Labs, Fabrication Shop, Non-Destructive Test Labs, Clean Rooms, Classrooms, Welding Labs, Cylinder Storage and a loading dock. All classrooms are sound isolated from the adjacent labs. Audiovisual Systems, Whiteboards, projection screens and equipment and remote control systems are in the classrooms and the lab instructional areas.
According to the College, this facility is the largest academic welding instructional facility in the United States. Penn College has also acquired the ONLY Electron Welding Beam in the United States which is housed in its own uniquely designed dedicated lab within the addition.
