PennDOT, Carbon County, Pennsylvania

This new 30,150 gsf facility will enable PennDOT to better perform their services for the Carbon County Community such as road surface repairs and treatment, winter operations, vegetation management, signing, as well as other services. This project is long overdue as the existing facility was built in the late 1930’s and no longer meets the County’s needs which restrict their operations.

The new Headquarter Maintenance facility will be equipped with: (4) garage mechanic bays; drive through vehicle wash/de-icing bays; fueling facilities; a weld shop, carpenter and sign shop; tire, materials, chemicals, and equipment storage; lifts; overhead doors; offices; a conference room; a lunch/ break room; shower and locker facilities; file storage; data closets; boiler rooms; and emergency generators.

This site was sited to provide the best separation of public/staff parking for the highest level of vehicular traffic site safety. It will be accessed by a new road in order to maintain separation from the existing onsite stock pile operations. Safety, ample in-coming and out-going secure storage; noise levels associated with the shop HVAC system, location of the overhead reels and mechanic’s tools; floor trenches; and extra wide maintenance bays to accommodate larger vehicles and their plows were some of the top priorities that we have designed for in this PennDOT project.
