Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, Pennsylvania
The need for skilled welding workers has been so acute in Northern Pennsylvania, that Murray Associates Architects completed a second renovation/addition to the Metal Trades Building. The first step was to apply for the U. S Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration Grant. Murray Associates worked with the College to complete the application and was successful in acquiring the $2 million Grant to begin their project.
The 30,152 gsf renovation project will expand the classrooms, material testing labs, testing, welding stations, machining equipment and storage while providing spaces for: a New Tool Room/Material Storage, Automation Area, Computer Labs, Fabrication Shop Area, Non-Destructive Test Labs, Clean Room, Classrooms, Welding Labs, Cylinder Storage and a loading dock. All classrooms will be sound isolated from the adjacent welding labs and are equipped with audiovisual systems which include screen, projection, video and remote-control systems. A plaza was designed to provide outdoor welding spaces for students in addition to social purposes.
