The intrinsic challenge was integrating a contemporary Health Center into the original 1924 historic Hospital. Extensive programming was centered on the basic design challenge of “how much of this legacy can be preserved while blending into today’s campus”. The project was designed to meet LEED “Silver” guidelines, including a living roof for the patients and staff to enjoy.

The 90,000 gsf Center include: a hospital-like extended stay wing incorporating full nursing stations, isolation room, and comprehensive security features; First Care facilities to address emergent care needs; autonomous Eye clinic for entire campus use; a separate wing for Behavioral Services and administrative offices; a small gymnasium; and full cafeteria and dining facility.
