Harrisburg, PA

To our knowledge, this is the only corporate tower expansion that is designed for LEED Platinum and Passive House standards in the entire United States. The project has 2 PassiveHouse projects in one, due to the Historic building and the new tower expansion.

PHFA purchased the buildings on Locust street which included 3 historical buildings, two of which were not disturbed. The turn of the century Hickock Mansion, that is located on the corner of Front and Locust Streets, will be integrated into the adjacent existing 8-story PHFA headquarters along with a new vertical 8-story tower.

The site is typical of an urban site, utilizing an existing parking lot. The design utilizes the maximum available foot print for the tower by cantilevering a portion of the tower expansion over the below historical building. Other unique systems include: A photovoltaic (PV) system, Living Roof and exterior Variable Refrigerant Flow units for them.

Instead of introducing an entrance within the historical facade, a unique contemporary entrance will be located within the courtyard between the two PHFA facilities. This three-story glass hinge houses one of two stair towers as a secure entrance into the ground level.

Raised flooring systems will house the heating, cooling and fresh air for a healthy environment. The return air ceiling plenum creates a healthy interior work space for the occupants by removing all particulates from multiple “Zones”.
