Highmark continually demonstrates their commitment to their employees and their ability to maintain their position at the forefront of providing preventative services to their employees. In another effort to provide additional services to their employees, Highmark engaged Murray Associates to design and outfit a clinic within their Harrisburg corporate offices. The presence of this new clinic further exemplifies Highmark’s commitment to wellness, ease of access to health professionals and improved quality-of-life.
The general-purpose clinic includes a series of exam rooms, staff offices, a physical therapy suite, pharmacy, reception/waiting area and staff administrative support spaces such as a dining area and dedicated staff rest areas. This 6,000 sf facility supports the overall wellness for the 1800 employees, which occupy the Center Street Campus.
Routine appointments are scheduled online to allow staff members to work around their schedules. Clinic visits are typically made during business hours, which further encourage Highmark employees to make and maintain necessary appointments, tests of various kinds and blood pressure monitoring. These and other routine visits might be ignored if not for the adjacency and the ease of access to the clinic for their employees on the campus. The clinic is also outfitted with a complete physical therapy suite, which can address staff needs and thereby prevent further injury by providing specific on-site treatment. Another extremely valuable service is access to the pharmacy, which allows the staff ease of obtaining ongoing medications. A dedicated procedure room allows the staff to perform minor procedures or to stabilize a patient if additional care is needed at one of the local hospitals.
Great care was taken to maintain staff privacy as they move in and out of the clinic. It was paramount that the staff would feel comfortable in accessing and utilizing the clinic. Therefore, we’ve Incorporated design details, including absorptive surfaces, increased FTC and NRC ratings of partitions and ceilings. Every effort was taken to ensure compliance of the clinic with the HIPA privacy standards. The interior design consists of a very neutral palette of various warm tones of easily maintained finishes, numerous types of lighting is utilized to provide an environment which avoids all the stereotypical aesthetic design strategies we’ve come to expect in the general-purpose clinic.
Lastly, the design of the suite allows staff and patients to easily flow through the various points of service. The centralized nurses station allows staff members to easily collect entering patients and begin testing and/or treatment as soon as the patients arrive. All medical records or are stored on a secure server located within the suite. This allows instant access of the medical records to the adjacent pharmacy staff and also to be sent to staff members, family physicians or to a hospital if necessary.
